Seasonal Sighting Log
A printable log for separating recurring observations from memory and assumptions.
Use this log to record repeated observations consistently. A pattern in the log can help organize questions, but it does not prove a cause, infestation, population trend, or species identification.
| Date and time | General location | Conditions | Count | Direct observations | Photo or record | Follow-up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Method
- Use the same location names and units across entries.
- Record zero observations only when a comparable check was actually made.
- Separate direct observations from guesses about cause or identity.
- Keep original images and note any changes in camera, lighting, inspection effort, or access.
- Review the log before acting, and use a qualified local identifier when an error could affect health, wildlife, property, or pesticide decisions.
Use the observation worksheet for detailed single-event notes and the photo checklist for image records. Report a problem through corrections.
